Taqueria El Sabor

My friend and I in an effort to save money drove from Seattle to Costco in Shoreline (perhaps bad planning gas-wise). We passed a restaurant that I had been meaning to try for quit some time: Taqueria El Sabor in Shoreline.

Behind the old Taco Bell facade was an oasis of flavors, sauces and crunch that would make many a limp burrito (that were once served there) run in disgrace; and they should! Taqueria El Sabor is the place Seattleites have been missing out on. If you're one of those, "Mama's is the best place for Mexican food" people, you shouldn't read on... also you disgust me.

Having grown up in Southern California for four years I have longed for fresh Mexican or even Tex-Mex cuisine. Many Americans think that Azteca is authentic Mexican cuisine, this saddens my heart and makes me want to dose jalepenos all over their, "is this going to be to hot," taste buds. Taqueria El Sabor brings so many rich flavors to the playing field that is your plate!

For the timid and picky, Taqueria El Sabor is perfect! Not only is the selection vast, but the entire menu is laid out in photos! There is no, "I didn't know my soup was made with big pieces of pork!" or "Hey?! This meat lovers chimichanga is filled with meat?"

I must state moving forward that I did not have the biggest appetite going into El Sabor, but I have been bugging my boyfriend ever since to make the journey up North so that we can really make a meal of it.

My friend being a serious carnivore decided to go with a chicken burrito, to which she told me was quit good.

I however decided upon a shrimp (camerones) tostada. I was absolutely stunned by the amount of shrimp my tostada possessed it was brimming overboard with the briney bastards! The top was deliciously green with avocados and cilantro which darted in and out of the shrimp.

Throughout the meal I wished that I could muster enough room in my stomach to fill it with fresh churros, but alas this meal was to much for me.

I am looking forward with great anticipation to visiting again as I saw that they served full fish and tres leche cake! Not necessarily in that order, but with an empty stomach and big eyes to match anything is possible.

For $6 I received a pina colada style beverage; two fresh tostadas (close to the size of my head) and access to a full service hot sauce and pickeled vegetable bar!

I challenge you Mama's Mexican Kitchen of Belltown to even come close!
